Cleaners who had stars in their eyesMay 7th, 2014 Category: Office Cleaning
What do Puff Daddy, Jim Carrey and Bob Hoskins all have in common? Is it their charming personalities? Big pay cheques? Or perhaps their ability to appeal to millions of people across the globe?
Don’t know? All three worked as cleaners before they hit the big time.
The rapper, record producer, actor and entrepreneur Puff Daddy – born as Sean John Combs – has had an impressive career so far.
The multi-talented artist has won three Grammy Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards, is the producer behind a successful reality television show, has his own fashion line, owns a movie production company and two restaurants.
In 2014, Forbes estimated his net worth as $700 million (£413 million), making him the wealthiest person in hip hop!
However, he wasn’t always a part of rap’s elite. Puff Daddy was born in Harlem and one of his first jobs was a bathroom cleaner in a Mexican restaurant.
The late, great Bob Hoskins was enigmatic and charming in real life as well as on screen. He won many accolades for his work as an actor, including the prestigious Prix d'interprétation masculine, a BAFTA and a nod from the Academy for his role in Mona Lisa.
He appeared in many critically acclaimed films, including The Long Good Friday and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and regularly starred in televisions shows – some more successful than others.
Bob made his return to British television in 2009, starring in the Street – a role that lead him to receive his only Emmy.
He held many interesting jobs before hitting it big time, including a camel herder in Syria and a volunteer in in kibbutz Zikim. He even worked as a window cleaner for a spell, which just goes to show humble beginnings does not always lead to an ordinary life.
Jim Carrey is an actor with many faces. He is able to portray wacky, schizophrenic, lovable and depressed characters with ease.
He is famous for his over-the-top slapstick performances, so much so that he is one of the biggest stars in tinsel town. Carrey has won many awards, including a Golden Globe for his role in The Truman Show and was nominated for BAFTA for Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind.
Although he is a big name in Hollywood, he started out as an average Joe. At 15, his family fell on hard times so he quit school and become a janitor to bring in extra income.
