Man finds $1m lottery ticket cleaning his room

Cleaning might not always be the most desirable task on your to-do list, but you don’t get an incentive stronger than a winning lottery ticket being buried under all your clutter.

This is what happened to a man from Georgia, who was casually cleaning his room when he discovered a month-old lottery ticket that was now lying on the floor gathering dust.

Gregory Jarrett, 26, from the Atlanta suburb of Decatur, had forgotten that he purchased the ticket, and was initially not too blown away by his find.

However, after checking the ticket, he discovered he had matched five numbers in the Powerball draw, winning a million bucks in the process.
After finding out about his amazing windfall he went to tell his mum.

Telling the story, Mr Jarrett said: “I called for my mom, and I walked toward her, shaking.

“She verified it, and at that point we hugged.”

Everyone has their own lottery strategy, and for Mr Jarrett it was choosing basing his numbers on his siblings’ birthdays that won him the big bucks.

His winning numbers were 7, 8, 9, 24 and 29, and he would have had up to six months to claim the money.

While some lottery winners have grand plans for their prize money, Mr Jarrett said his only idea thus far is to use the money to pay some bills.

So next time you’re looking at a messy room and can’t face cleaning it – just imagine, there could be a veritable treasure trove waiting to be unearthed under it all.
