Top tips for a productive workspace

October 11th, 2013 Category: Office Cleaning

We all know that if the space we are working in is a cluttered mess, it can be hard to concentrate, and productivity will drop as a result.

However, with a fast-paced business lifestyle will come a lack of time to make sure our desks are looking great and really working for us. For this reason, business owners can actually set aside time for their staff to make sure their areas are in the best shape, and help to create a perfect working environment as a result.

But what are the best ways for busy office workers to make sure they declutter effectively?

Be ruthless

Decluttering in the first instance is all about getting rid of things you don't need, and the only way to do this effectively is to be totally ruthless.

We all have things on our desks that we don't need now, but might need some time in the future. However, the chances are that you most likely won't need these things at all, so get rid of them.

Only keeping items and documents that you definitely need will drastically reduce the amount of clutter you have and give you a much less busy and more peaceful desk to work at.

Give everything a home

Things lying all over the top of the desk will eventually just lead to more build up of stuff you don't need over time, so it's important everything has a home.

Whether it's drawers in the desk or a filing box beside your computer, it is important to make sure that at the end of the day you can put everything away in its rightful place.

This means you can come into a neat and tidy desk each and every morning, ready to start the day afresh rather than moving things to find space.

Keep on top of tidiness

Even if you clean your desk once, using it all the time and being there day after day will mean it can quickly return to its former state, so it's important to keep on top of the situation.
The best way to do this is to take five minutes at the end of each day to just clear everything away. It won't take long to throw rubbish in the bin, file documents you have used and put all your stationery into the drawers.

This will mean that your desk remains in top shape for far longer, allowing you to work productively and do your job far more effectively without distractions.
