Decluttering in the first instance is all about getting rid of things you don't need, and the only way to do this effectively is to be totally ruthless.
We all have things on our desks that we don't need now, but might need some time in the future. However, the chances are that you most likely won't need these things at all, so get rid of them.

This means you can come into a neat and tidy desk each and every morning, ready to start the day afresh rather than moving things to find space.
Keep on top of tidiness
Even if you clean your desk once, using it all the time and being there day after day will mean it can quickly return to its former state, so it's important to keep on top of the situation.
The best way to do this is to take five minutes at the end of each day to just clear everything away. It won't take long to throw rubbish in the bin, file documents you have used and put all your stationery into the drawers.
This will mean that your desk remains in top shape for far longer, allowing you to work productively and do your job far more effectively without distractions.
