Use cleaning firms to keep illness minimised

It's that time of year again for people working in offices around the UK – winter's almost here.

With the weather taking a turn for the worse and the darker mornings, most of us don't feel at our best and brightest anyway, but this time of the year is also the period where outbreaks of colds and flu are most common.

And as we all know, if one person in the office has a sniffle, it won't be long until a few people are feeling a little worse for wear.

As well as the inevitable absences that can come when people are unable to make their way into the office, though, there is also a worry with those who make it in, because productivity will lower, and many working hours can be lost.

You might think that there's little you can do to prevent this, but that is not the case. Of course, you can't completely eradicate germs from the office, but having a stringent cleaning policy is the way to ensure the spread of germs is kept to a minimum.

Desks are a breeding ground for illness, so making sure that these are wiped down each night will be a great way to stop germs from not only lingering, but spreading. With all the coughing and sneezing going on, this is an absolute must.

Other areas to target include door handles. It's a well-known fact that these can harbour more germs than toilet seats, and with people coming and going all day, the spread of infection through handles is all too easy. 

Again, a simple wiping down of these can be the ideal way to keep the threat to a minimum.

Of course, there are also ways that you can stop the spread of germs besides cleaning. Many firms can now allow members of staff to do all their work from home, so it's worth encouraging your workers to stay away from the office if they start to feel poorly – this can stop their germs from bringing other colleagues down with them.
