April 9th, 2013 Category: Office Cleaning

The new financial year is upon us, and for most business, that means completing the tasks that have been put off until the paperwork is out of the way and the most pressing jobs have been completed.

An office spring clean can give the premises a new lease of life, and with it, bully employee morale and boost productivity. There has been several studies that highlight the importance of a clean working environment in regards to the company’s employees, with researchers finding that a well presented and hygienic office place can improve daily output, reduce absenteeism and boost perceptions of the business.

According to Forbes Magazine, there are several considerations one should make before conducting a thorough office clean. First of all, divide your workspace into zones in order to establish how you want and need to use the space. For the average office, this could mean reducing clutter in certain areas by having a filing space, or creating a library for books and case studies which will lead to an efficient use of space.

The best guidance in this regard is to keep only what you need at arm’s length. This means boxes of pens, stacks of paper and old coffee cups need to go, and only the computer, telephone and immediate working equipment should be by your side. Creating a daily paper system, where files are organised and archived, is the best way to mitigate the paper clutter on the desk, although a paperless office is becoming equally as feasible today.

Once you’ve created a bit of space, make sure you get all the nooks and crannies cleaned out. The desk should be made to sparkle now it is free from clutter, which will transform the attitude of the employee in an instant.
