Offices ‘should be cleaned every day’

Companies have been told to ensure their offices are properly cleaned every single day.

According to Pallavi Shivarkar, corporate services manager at an IT firm in India, employees spend the vast majority of their workday in the office.

This, he said, means it is necessary to make sure that every corner of this space is regularly cleaned – ideally on a daily basis.

Speaking to the Times of India, Mr Shivarkar insisted businesses need to be equally concerned with making sure every other part of the building is clean as well.

"Cleanliness and hygiene should not only be limited to your cabin and floor, but also should be considered for the entire premises," he commented.

With that in mind, it could be a good idea for a firm to bring in office cleaning specialists, so they can use their expertise and equipment to do a thoroughly professional job day after day, while the business itself can get on with delivering its core services.

Mr Shivarkar said keeping offices clean could be supported by making sure employees place a big focus on hygiene.

"The people working around you form a part of your environment," he commented.

"Having the entire building or complex clean will reflect well for yourself and those dropping by into your office."

And of course, placing a firm focus on office cleaning and workplace hygiene can help to keep the workforce healthy.

At this time of year, there are all sorts of bugs flying around and employers will be wise to take steps to reduce the chances of their staff getting infected and forced to take time off.

Only recently, the Better Business Bureau warned that people are particularly susceptible to influenza at this time of year. As a result, it believes taking steps to prevent the spread of germs in the workplace – such as using hand sanitisers and disinfectants – could be useful in order to stop workers falling sick throughout the winter.
