Social Concerns

At NViro we aim to provide cleaning contracts that meet the broader criteria of sustainability in so far as they integrate social concerns into
the business operation as well as environmental ones.

Examples of this are:

Creating full time
cleaning jobs

Where possible we will work with clients to create longer cleaning shifts that make cleaning a realistic full time job opportunity. This involves identifying daytime duties that can be undertaken whilst client staff are in the building which include:

Emptying the contents of
office recycling stations and removing them to a central collection point.

Agreeing a list of communal areas in a building that can be cleaned without disturbing the work of client staff, such as corridors, stairs, receptions or external areas.

Employing contractor staff to refresh clean toilets, or in a building with many toilet units, agreeing that they can all be cleaned during office hours on a rotating basis rather than all being cleaned in the evening.

NVQ training for all staff
Training is a vital component in delivering client satisfaction and in an internal survey of NViro cleaning staff carried out in 2006, over 90% supported the provision of site-based training to improve their skills.

Since then the Leitch Review, an independent study commissioned by the government to recommend ways of making Britain’s workforce more competitive recommended that the UK government introduces an entitlement to workplace training for all staff lacking a Level 2 qualification or equivalent. This is targeted to come into force in 2010 across all sectors.

NViro has wholeheartedly engaged in this activity by embarking on a programme in partnership with specialist training organisations and colleges of further education that will make NVQ Level 2 in Cleaning and Support Services available to all front line staff and supervisors. The programme draws down funding from the government’s Train To Gain scheme and is already proving immensely popular with NViro staff.
