Requirement
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council approached NViro with a view to reducing
waste and maximising recycling in the office environment.
The current practice was to utilise traditional metal waste bins
with liners on a ‘one per desk’ basis. Paper recycling
trays were available but were sited sporadically throughout the
Council buildings.
Response
After consultation, NViro introduced a new regime whereby individual
desk bins were replaced with centrally located waste/recycling
receptacles for cardboard/paper and other waste. These were placed
in each open plan office or group of cellular offices.
Benefits
| • |
NViro diverted the savings resulting from fewer bin liners and less bin emptying into sponsoring the new recycling bins and promoting new arrangements |
| • |
Office personnel were encouraged to think about recycling and to walk the few steps to their nearest recycling point |
